Happiness

Hello boys & girls,  I am a magic worm and I have a secret for you.  You know when I feel myself really happy? I feel myself happy when I eat apples; big red juicy apples exactly. Moreover, I have an especial capacity in relation with happiness. I can enter in everyone body and help them in order to feel happy.

This time I enter in Asier´s body and I have been there for long. I know the feeling he is having  during the stay in Ghent and obviously during the art class sessions.

I know that he like Art in general, mostly drawing, doing things or painting. This time you have done lot of different things and I know that he feel himself comfortable.  He has studied things that he could not image before and his bag is full of new an interesting things so that he is going to apply them in his nearly future.

This blog is the clear result of that. Although he has made some things in the blog I am the one who gives him energy to go on and to enjoy with he was doing.

My time here has already finished, so maybe see you in another blog BYE!!!!!

Design museum

The last art class lesson. Some history and the design museum are the things that we have  seen.

Ones in the cathedral, we have to take a look to the furnish into the St Bavo cathedral and identify with our card. First we organize in couples and then they give a card. In our card we can see a orange cat painting a drawing. In the drawing we could see a lake or a fish bowl. Maybe the cat was hungry or she/he has a wish and the cat want to focus the wish in the drawing.

One’s we take a look inside the cathedral,  we create a nice link, saying that in both places we can see different stories. The fish of the cats drawing it seems to be alive. The same happens with the cathedral drawings. For my point of view, they want to show that, although they are paintings they show stories, happenings..

I like this activity to make it with the children in the school. They develop their creativity in a funny way. Depending on the children age, maybe  some variations can be needed; you can give them different  cards related with a theme that they  like… and instead of going to the cathedral do it in the museum, or in a park, forest, the street what can they see in the street… Furthermore, it is a nice idea to work in groups, so instead of making couples you can make fours and give two cards or you can give some clues to manage the exercise.

Moreover, in the way from the cathedral to the museum I realize about different things. All the part of the Centrum of Ghent is design, they build a new Ghent with lot of things to see for the tourists. All the roofs are design in a vertical way. The teacher ask a question What can you see that is design here? The answer was all, just because everything is design in a certain way. Us a person also we are design.

Going on with the design museum, in my opinion it is a nice place to go. At the beginning it is strange because it is a combination of things that it is not easy to understand. We have to watch or observe  the museum and answer some questions. Here are some examples:

Find an object that it looks as if it was dancing.

There are three innovative fan. They do not have blades but in the purpose is the same. The air is generate in a other way, maybe they become our future fans.

I spy with my little eye a flower. Draw that flower.
When I saw this object a tulip comes into my mind.

Find an object in the museum that consist out of mainly your favourite colour. Does this colour look good on the item chosen?

Both blue and green are my favourite colours. I saw lot objects with those colours but the one that attract me most was the next lamp. The combination of colours,  with the lines and the light of the light bulb it makes something especial.

In addition, the design museum was nice. Lot of different designs were there, vacuums, bicycles, home tools, chairs, lamps, paintings, vases...

I have to say that some designs were old fashioned for my point of view. This museum is a clear example of the evolution in the word of design. Different ways and different materials are expose there. Wood, wool and porcelain are getting older while metal and glass are the most common materials nowadays.

Anyway, if for us this trip was interesting for the pupils too.  That is the reason why I think that these type of museums give nice opportunity to work with children.  It is a pity that the objects that are expose there cannot be touch. Children love experimenting and exploring with new things. Nevertheless, it is not a big impediment. I was thinking of making like a game, in which the children must found objects giving them some clues. The exercise is similar with the one we did, but in this case focus on the smaller. For them it will be fun and it will have a nice experience.

Going on I would like to make a remark. In the museums the staff was controlling if we were touching the objects or not. I do not argue in this point, just because I think that there are lot of attractive objects offer for the public. Ones you are inside the museums and you see those objects with different shapes, textures and colours it is inevitable to touch and experiment by yourself. So someday if I have the opportunity of making my own museum it would be allow touching the objects. In my opinion it is a different way of interiorising things.

For those how are interested on art and design in the next web page there is more information about this museum. http://www.designmuseumgent.be/ENG/whats-new.php .

To end with the publication I would like you to compare this museum with the one that is in my town. We only have a museum “Ibarraundi museoa” in which depending the season different works or objects are exposed. One of my favourite exposition was about the old castle founding’s that the scientists did.  In the next photos you can see  the middle ages ``Aitzorrotz´´ castle how it was. Although the web page is in Basque there are more photos uploaded. http://zaharra.eskoriatza.net/ezagutu/atxorrotz

To end with, I make the next chair design. It is very comfortable and not expensive, so the ones who are interested in the sketch let me know !

``The king and the dragon ´´

I like drawing do not you? We like painting, drawing, colouring, stories, comics... they are part of our lives. Who does not have a comic in his bedroom? Maybe it is about Nelo and Patrasche?

You know that, A Dog of Flanders is a novel written by the English author Marie Louise de la Ramee in 1872. It is about a Flemish boy named Nello and his dog, Patrasche.  The origin is English, but is better known in Belgium because of the tourist’s attraction. Perhaps, is widely read in Japan and has been adapted into several films and anime.

About the lesson, I enjoy a lot in the class. We make different activities in relation with drawing but focus on the pupils. The class begins with the world of comics and we end doing one by ourselves. It is a nice activity also to do with children, perhaps I do it during my teaching practice time. The final result was amazing. Here there are some pictures:

The activity is consist on making different groups, more o less between three, four or five person per group it must be O.K. The groups should be divided into different tables around the space and in each table should be one big white paper. Ones the groups are made each partner have to take one object. The teacher has to provide the objects (you can go to a second hand market an buy a big box plenty of toys).

These are the step they must be follow during the activity:

1.- Ones each groups is in their tables and each of the partner has his own toy, they can put them into the paper and draw something related with the object. (I have chosen the fish so I drawn the sea).

2.- You have to take the toy and go in the clocks direction to the next table. Each of the group members has to take the toy with him. The next step is to add something to the drawing that the other partners did in their drawing. The toy must be used, with the same purpose of the beginning. Then, the toy has to be leaved there.

3.- They have to change to the next table. In the third step in each drawing there must be 4 toys a some drawing around them. In this case what they have to do is to go to the news paper and take one image, the most attractive one and stick in the paper where ever they want.

4.- Ones they are in the next table, they have to draw something around the news paper.

5. Finally the last step is to take some words from the news paper and stick in the paper. And suddenly there are five different creations, five different stories.

In our case when we finished the activity, each of the group members have to create our comic, starting with what we can see in the drawings. In my case there was a throne with the king, a car, a gnome who was alone in an island and some cows. This is the result of the comic:

``The king and the dragon´´

This activity has more than one variation so the teacher is the one who has to be looking and controlling. In our case we have had some minutes to make our drawings. For the children you can give more time. Moreover the teacher has to know that the objective is not the same than for us. The children are who has to tell to the teacher the rhythm of the activity.

The teacher show us one easy way for the smaller to start drawing. It was consist on using geometric forms. I have found the next video in which you can see how they draw animals starting with those geometrical forms. I hope that you like it !

Moreover, for the older children these is a fantastic web said. It is based on drawing. Different examples are there, take a look ! : http://www.yourdrawinglessons.com/

To end with here you can see a funny picture taken during the process of the activities :

Abstract painting

JOSE LUIS ZUMETA (19/04/1939-)

The painter that I have chose is Jose Luis Zumeta. He is a Basque painter and her style is abstract. I like abstract painting because although the painter focus her/his ideas there you can imagine lot of things, you enter in a fiction word. Moreover, they are colourful and attractive, so those characteristic are essential for my in a painting.

Bearing in mind that I think that this kind of paintings are nice to work with children. The objective is not to find out the paintings meaning, if they do it brilliant but this kind of painting give children the opportunity to improve different skills, cognitive, critical thinking, work with colors, comparing shapes…..

The painting I have chosen is the next one :

As you can see there are lot of different colors and shapes. More or less you can see a house there with his furniture, the roof without the walls, kitchen tools, animals, windows…

You can start asking children what they see, asking close and wide questions and depending the answer they give you go thought that topic. It will be nice if they recognize a house or a farm there because it gives the opportunity to compare, speak about how it is each pupils house and why not, to create a house with their hands.

Also you can use some web pages that are especial to create music, so they can create music referring their house movement. If their house is  not crowd and it is calm the music should not be so speedy and vice versa.

There is more than one websites:

On the other hand, I paint the puppet that I did not finish in the previous class. As you can see is an elephant. You could said that because of the color is an strange one, but Why?. You have to use the imagination and more when we speak about the smaller. There is a luck o imagination in education, just because the elephant are grey they have to be grey.

Here is the puppet that I have created:

It would be nice if children could create them puppets. Making their own puppet is easy and beneficial for them, due to the fact that it is an attractive and fun craft activity.  Moreover, they use their imagination while they are playing with the puppets. For that, to give the adequate instructions is essential, they can do it if we give them the essential material and the steps they have to follow. Here are some simple and fun puppets:

Taking into account the importance of the puppets, I would like to underlain that in the Basque Country we call them ``Txontxongiloak´´ and they are use to transmit stories. In the next link you can see a story about `` The three wishes ´´. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgijtPHlavo

It would be a fun activity the creation of some puppets with children and them starting from that point create a story and tell to the babies or to the parents.  It would be a part of the literature project for example. Children love stories, books, fiction world... so they can think about something relate with the puppets and the literature, mix them and be part of a project in the school.

To end with , the other day we went to Liege. Here are some different photos of the modern Lieges train station:
